DESCRIPTION

No bar is complete without a cocktail shaker!  Throw your ingredients in, don’t be afraid to experiment and let your conscience be your guide regarding how many you have.  And don’t forget, there’s always the mocktail option!  What’s that?  Has someone just fainted in the fourth row?

As a mover and cocktail shaker, you have the appearance of fullness in your waist often due to child birth (damn those brats!) or carrying additional weight.  By comparison, your waist is wider than your shoulders and hips and your shoulders may be rounded.  Often, your legs are well shaped.

In some cases this shape may also be described as an apple. Your bust, waist and hip measurements are all similar and you lean towards an hourglass shape if you lose weight at your stomach.

STYLE TIPS

By focussing on your neck and shoulders or creating elongated silhouettes you distract from your widest point – your waist.

Try and minimise bulk in clothing from bust to hips, like this sheath dress.  Use the visual lines to enhance your shoulders and keep lines fitted but soft.

Draw attention to your neck with wide open necklines, scarves and feature jewellery.

SHEATH DRESS

SHEATH DRESS

This simple sheath dress has simple lines and a colour which helps to minimise your waist. The extended shoulder or boatline works to make your shoulders look bigger and  adds balance to your silhouette.

FIRTTED JACKET AND FLARED SKIRT

Keep lines around waist simple with a jacket that goes to your hips and avoid crop Chanel styles.  Add detail above bust and into the shoulder line with printed scarves and should pads. Avoid adding bulk to your waist by keeping jackets or knitwear single breasted.

BABY DOLL TOP AND PALAZZO PANTS

BABY DOLL TOP AND PALAZZO PANTS

A baby doll top emphasises your bust whilst dropping over your waist and stomach.  Following the same formula, an empire line dress will show your figure to advantage.

For the bottom of your body, add balance with a flare skirt or pant.  This visually helps to minimise the proportion of your waist.  Ensure these bottoms do not have any excess fabric  that will build up your waist.  Go for smooth finishes, pocket-less and high waisted garments.

High heels will elongate your shape.  By making your shoes a feature whether with style, detail or colour you can distract from your waist.

THINGS TO AVOID

WRAP DRESS

WRAP DRESS

Avoid belts in any shape.  Avoid sleeves, jackets or tops that finish at your fullest points.

Avoid skirts that finish above your knees and high waisted skirts/ pants .

In this example , even with the distracting print, wide open neckline and flare skirt ,this wrap dress highlights the waist.

SWEATER TOP AND MINI SKIRT

SWEATER TOP AND MINI SKIRT

In this outfit, the bulk of the sweat look is emphasizing your waist and making you look like a parcel. Avoid miniskirts as they visually shorten you.  In this outfit, the bulk of the sweat look is emphasizing your waist and making you look like a parcel.

DOUBLE BRESTED TRENCH COAT AND LEGGINGS

DOUBLE BRESTED TRENCH COAT AND LEGGINGS

The belted trench just serves to add a lot of bulk to the upper body with double layers and the belt emphasizes the widest point. .  By contrast the leggings being  fitted just act to highlight the upper part of the body.
