DESCRIPTION

Hourglasses – perhaps the only shape mentioned herein without a justifiable seat at the bar!  Nonetheless, you’re most welcome to be here.  The rest of us may need someone responsible to place timely limitations on our imbibing!

You are characterised by having a well-defined waist as it is significantly smaller than your bust and hips.  This creates a curvy silhouette as in these iconic pictures of Marilyn and Halle.  Other famous hourglass examples are Ava Gardner, Eva Longoria.

 STYLE TIPS

FLORAL FITTED DRESS

FLORAL FITTED DRESS

Dress in clothes that follow the curves of your body, do not try to hide your waist or you will end up looking boxy.

This pretty fitted dress follows the contours of your body and highlights your hourglass shape.

FITTED JACKET AND PANTS

FITTED JACKET AND PANTS

Adding height tends to lengthen silhouette and ensures you don’t look boxy.  So if you are short  then  heels are good for you.

Wear fitted tops or jackets that are nipped in at the waist help to define it  Pants with wide legs, like palazzo or bootcut, take the line of your hip through to the ground.  This softens your curves.

FITTED BLOUSE AND HIGH WAISTED SKIRT

FITTED BLOUSE AND HIGH WAISTED SKIRT

Wear high waisted bottoms or ones with minimal gathers to maximise your waist and don’t add a lot to your hips. Skirts in soft fabrics drape well on you, stiff fabrics have a tendency to make your hips look larger. Minimise the extra gathers or pockets which increase your hip line.

THINGS TO AVOID

The oversized shirt and boxy boyfriend jeans make Halle Berry look like a parcel. These are styles to avoid.  Although, perhaps here she’s trying to elude the photographers!

JUMPER AND KILT

JUMPER AND KILT

This kilt again adds bulk to your hips , which is magnified in its effect because it is short making you look shorter than you are. When mixed with this rolled it tends to emphasize your shoulders again making you look more top heavy than you are.

PEPLUM TOP WITH LEGGINGS

PEPLUM TOP WITH LEGGINGS

Avoid long line tops with a peplum at the hip, they hide your glorious waist and make you look more hippy. Leggings tend to emphasize your hips because they highlight how narrow your ankles are , the overall effect makes you look hippy.

BOATNECK TOP AND HAREM PANTS

BOATNECK TOP AND HAREM PANTS

Harem pants add a lot of bulk to your hips which I would not recommend for the curvy hourglass . The boat neck straightens off the shoulder emphasizing it which may make you look top heavy.
